Visit www.TrueContrarian.com for more information. The sub-prime mortgage crisis has led to the bursting of the US housing bubble. What's next? Craig Brockie and New York Times best selling financial author and economic forecaster Robert Prechter share how to survive & prosper in a deflationary depression. Find answers to these questions: Bull market boom or bear market bust ahead? Recession or depression? Inflation or deflation? Buy or sell? US dollar, Yen, Euro, Amero, gold or silver? Equities or bonds? Can the Fed save the day? Will Ben Bernake and the Federal Reserve print the greenback into oblivion and create a repeat of the German Weimar Republic? Or will we experience another stock market crash followed by a repeat of The Great Depression? Avoid foreclosure of your home, protect your retirement savings by selling your mutual funds and stocks before the herd, avoid a run on the bank and your insurance company going broke. Sleep well knowing you're prepared. Who has the answers? CNBC, Bloomberg, The Wall street Journal, The Economist, The Globe and Mail, or BBC World? How about an interview or panel with Donald Trump, Jim Cramer, Alan Greenspan, Warren Buffet, Doug Casey, Jim Shepherd, Milton Friedman, Naomi Klein, George W. 7. Behavioral Finance: The Role of Psychology 65.17 min. | 5.0 user rating | 62342 views Financial Markets (ECON 252) Behavioral Finance is a relatively recent revolution in finance that applies insights from all of the social sciences to finance. New decision-making models incorporate psychology and sociology, among other disciplines, to explain economic and financial phenomenon, such as erratic stock price variations. Psychological patterns such as overconfidence and perceived kinks in the value function seem to impact financial decision-making, but are not included in classical theories such as the Expected Utility Theory. Kahneman and Tversky's Prospect Theory addresses such issues and sheds light on irrational deviations from traditional decision-making models. 00:00 - Chapter 1. The Rise and Fall of Mark Hurd as HP Chief 3.98 min. | 5.0 user rating | 30716 views This is the VOA Special English Economics Report, from voaspecialenglish.com | http Mark Hurd got credit for building Hewlett-Packard into the world's largest technology company. HP is the top seller of personal computers and printers. It had sales last year of almost one hundred fifteen billion dollars. Mister Hurd became chief executive officer five years ago after HP ousted Carly Fiorina. Later he also became chairman. Under his leadership HP stock doubled in price. So the news out of Palo Alto, California in August came to many as a shock. Mark Hurd was out. Investigators said he had falsified expense records to hide spending on a woman who worked with HP. Reports said the amount was about twenty thousand dollars. Mister Hurd is married. He earned twenty-four million dollars last year. In June the former marketing contractor, Jodie Fisher, accused Mister Hurd of sexual harassment. Through her lawyer, she said she was "surprised and saddened" that he lost his job. She said they had settled her claim privately. The sometime actress also said they never had an "intimate sexual relationship." HP and private investigators found no violation of the sexual harassment policy at the company. But they did find that Mister Hurd violated HP's Standards of Business Conduct. These suggest that before employees make a decision, they should "consider how it would look in a news story."Sexual harassment is one of the areas of job discrimination investigated by the Equal Employment ... 6. Efficient Markets vs. Excess Volatility 68.30 min. | 0 user rating | 25835 views Financial Markets (ECON 252) Several theories in finance relate to stock price analysis and prediction. The efficient markets hypothesis states that stock prices for publicly-traded companies reflect all available information. Prices adjust to new information instantaneously, so it is impossible to "beat the market." Furthermore, the random walk theory asserts that changes in stock prices arise only from unanticipated new information, and so it is impossible to predict the direction of stock prices. Using statistical tools, we can attempt to test the hypotheses and to predict future stock prices. These tests show that efficient markets theory is a half-truth: it is difficult but not impossible for some people to beat the market. 00:00 - Chapter 1. STOC (Stock Ticker Orbital Comparison) data visualization 1.42 min. | 4.8125 user rating | 18805 views STOC (Stock Ticker Orbital Comparison) is an interactive data visualization, using the metaphor of a planetary system, which maps parameters of stocks in the S&P500 to animated visual outputs. World Premiere at the SIGGRAPH 2009 Information Aesthetics Showcase in New Orleans, LA. Credit to Adam Fielding's "Traveling Light" for the demo video music, licensed CC-NC-BY. DOWNLOAD STOC at www.uniformchaos.org University of Advancing Technology James Grant Todd Spencer 1. Introduction Existing methods for displaying large amounts of stock market data do not easily allow comparison between companies, as the data is often presented in tabular format. Some solutions implement a price-over-time graph, with the option of layering on additional stocks or market indices for comparison. STOC, however, seeks to allow immediate comparison of hundreds or thousands of stocks, by mapping various stock-specific parameters to easily observable visual outputs. This visualization is particularly suited for comparisons between items, as one is able to immediately identify the largest, or reddest, or quickest item in the group. 2. Data Mapping The program uses mapping functions to adjust the raw data within ranges usable for visualization purposes. The data is mapped between inputs and outputs as follows: - volume of trading = planet orbital distance - comparison to S&P 500 = planet speed - percent change from prior close = planet color - market capitalization = planet size - P/E ratio = planet ... Mr. Redleaf discusses his thoughts about psychological barriers that make markets inefficient. He also comments on his beliefs regarding risk management and how people are compensated for mitigating risks, rather than for taking on risk as is often perceived. These markets now allow investors and traders to set prices for a broad spectrum of assets and for a whole term structure stretching into the distant future. Some of these markets are often priced according to simple fair-value formulae, others are not. Futures markets can be in backwardation, where the future price is lower than the present, spot price. They can also be in contango, where the price rises with maturity and is higher in the future than it is today. How the Stock Market Works: Working Dollars (1957 Animated Film) 10.75 min. | 4.7777777 user rating | 5409 views thefilmarchive.org A stock exchange is an entity that provides services for stock brokers and traders to trade stocks, bonds, and other securities. Stock exchanges also provide facilities for issue and redemption of securities and other financial instruments, and capital events including the payment of income and dividends. Securities traded on a stock exchange include shares issued by companies, unit trusts, derivatives, pooled investment products and bonds. To be able to trade a security on a certain stock exchange, it must be listed there. Usually, there is a central location at least for record keeping, but trade is increasingly less linked to such a physical place, as modern markets are electronic networks, which gives them advantages of increased speed and reduced cost of transactions. Trade on an exchange is by members only. The initial offering of stocks and bonds to investors is by definition done in the primary market and subsequent trading is done in the secondary market. A stock exchange is often the most important component of a stock market. Supply and demand in stock markets is driven by various factors that, as in all free markets, affect the price of stocks (see stock valuation). There is usually no compulsion to issue stock via the stock exchange itself, nor must stock be subsequently traded on the exchange. Such trading is said to be off exchange or over-the-counter. This is the usual way that derivatives and bonds are traded. Increasingly, stock ... More information |

Who benefits from a Eurozone crash? | Euro crisis update 2.12 min. | 4.6666665 user rating | 3403 views London City trader Alessio Rastani this week predicted in a BBC interview that the eurozone market is going to crash. "The market is toast," he told a visibly shaken interviewer. According to Rastani, the market has no confidence whatsoever in the euro rescue packages that are being discussed at the moment. There is nothing that governments can do, he said. 'It's not going to work," he said. "The euro is going to crash. Markets are ruled by fear." EUXTV's Ray Frenken draws on his background as a financial journalist and looks at some of the possibilities that investors may deploy in order to benefit from the crash that they predict, such as taking positions in the options market as an insurance policy. "This economic crisis is like a cancer. Get prepared. This is not a time for wishful thinking. The governments do not rule this world. Goldman Sachs rules the world." The financial institutions "know the market is toast, he said. Watch the original interview at www.youtube.com Also make sure to read: www.telegraph.co.uk More information |

Sprint Nextel In Talks To Buy T-Mobile USA From Deutsche Telekom AG 1.25 min. | 3.0 user rating | 2690 views Bloomberg reported today that Deutsche Telekom AG has been in talks to sell T-Mobile USA to Sprint Nextel Corp (NYSE:S) in exchange for a stake in the combined entity, according to unnamed sources with knowledge of the matter. Talks have been on and off, and the deal may not happen as the companies have not been able to agree on a valuation for T-Mobile USA, which recently reported a drop in profitability in the 4th quarter. A Sprint/T-Mobile USA merger would combine the 3rd and 4th largest US wireless providers behind Verizon Wireless and AT&T (NYSE:T). Sprint's market value was $13.6 billion as of yesterday's close. T-Mobile USA may have a valuation in the neighborhood of $22.6 billion, based on an estimate by Evolution Securities. "In general, all options are open in the US -- the sale of the whole business or of parts," Deutsche Telekom Chief Financial Officer Timotheus Hoettges said in a response to the report today. He said the company could also find a partner, sell shares in the market or form a network agreement. "We're flexibly positioned," Hoettges said, adding that Deutsche Telekom is working on several options. "We're not under pressure. We want the best solution." More information |

The 3D Elevator @ The Rockefeller Center - Top of the Rocks - in New York City 0.75 min. | 5.0 user rating | 2488 views The 3D Elevator @ The Rockefeller Center - Top of the Rocks - in New York City Rockefeller Center is a complex of 19 commercial buildings covering 22 acres (89000 m2) between 48th and 51st streets in New York City. Built by the Rockefeller family, it is located in the center of Midtown Manhattan, spanning the area between Fifth Avenue and Sixth Avenue. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1987.[2][3][4] Gardens on the roofs of Rockefeller Plaza buildings Rockefeller Center was named after John D. Rockefeller, Jr., who leased the space from Columbia University in 1928 and developed it from 1930. Rockefeller initially planned a syndicate to build an opera house for the Metropolitan Opera on the site, but changed his mind after the stock market crash of 1929 and the withdrawal of the Metropolitan from the project. Rockefeller stated "It was clear that there were only two courses open to me. One was to abandon the entire development. The other to go forward with it in the definite knowledge that I myself would have to build it and finance it alone."[5] He took on the enormous project as the sole financier, on a 24-year lease[6] (with the option for three 21-year renewals for a total of 87 years) for the site from Columbia; negotiating a line of credit with the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and covering ongoing expenses through the sale of oil company stock. Inside Bombay Stock Exchange - BSE 1.03 min. | 5.0 user rating | 2464 views BSE Bombay Stock Exchange, Dalal Street, Bombay. This is where ALL the action takes place in Mumbai! Even after the city's name was changed to Mumbai, they have gladly not changed it to the MBE. Imagine calling it the Mumbai Stock Exchange. It just doesn't sound right! As per Wikipedia: The Bombay Stock Exchange is the oldest exchange in Asia. It traces its history to the 1850s, when four Gujarati and one Parsi stockbroker would gather under banyan trees in front of Mumbai's Town Hall. The location of these meetings changed many times, as the number of brokers constantly increased. The group eventually moved to Dalal Street in 1874 and in 1875 became an official organization known as 'The Native Share & Stock Brokers Association'. In 1956, the BSE became the first stock exchange to be recognized by the Indian Government under the Securities Contracts Regulation Act. The Bombay Stock Exchange developed the BSE SENSEX in 1986, giving the BSE a means to measure overall performance of the exchange. In 2000 the BSE used this index to open its derivatives market, trading SENSEX futures contracts. The development of SENSEX options along with equity derivatives followed in 2001 and 2002, expanding the BSE's trading platform. Historically an open outcry floor trading exchange, the Bombay Stock Exchange switched to an electronic trading system in 1995. It took the exchange only fifty days to make this transition. This automated, screen-based trading platform called BSE On-line ... More information |
